J.D. Robb’s Bonded in Death is the sixtieth book in her “In Death” series, but it may be the best in the series. She’s still at the top of her game, bringing Lieutenant Eve Dallas a crime from the past.
When Giovanni Rossi was killed in a limo in New York City, the murderer made one gigantic mistake. He planted a facsimile of Eve Dallas’ business card on the victim. It’s obvious he wanted Dallas on the case for some obscure reason. When Dallas learns the death is personal to her household, she’s determined to track the killer who waited years to murder.
Long before Eve was born, the world went through the Urban Wars, the Urbans. In 2016, the European Urbans were going bad. At the time, The Twelve was an underground unit that fought Dominion and other violent fringe groups during the Urbans. They took an oath to be there for each other. With Giovanni Rossi’s death in New York, The Twelve were down to eight. And, one of those was a medic, the man who eventually took in a young thief, Roarke, who became Dallas’ husband. That man was Summerset, Roarke’s majordomo. And, neither Roarke nor Dallas knew about Summerset’s past. When they learn about his past as one of The Twelve, they’re determined to protect the man who takes care of their home. And, they’re determined to protect the remaining eight from a killer out for revenge.
Bonded in Death is a strong entry in this series. It’s fascinating to read about the Urbans, and to learn more about Summerset’s past. The historical aspect, and the glimpse into the past makes this my favorite in the series.

FTC Full Disclosure – I received a galley from the publisher through NetGalley, with no promise of a review.
They denied my request last Friday evening so I have to do the library waiting dance. Glad to know it is a good one.
KRT in Big D where it was 84 today.
And, I only had a galley, Kevin, so I can’t share it. I’m sorry.
Oh, 84 sounds great to me. I’m sure it just means it’s going to be a long, hot year to you.
Lesa, you’d love our weather here now”
79 – 79 -79 – 79 – 81 – 81 – 79 – 79.
Gorgeous, Jeff!
Oh, I know. I never expected you to share it. Just annoyed as THEY FAILED TO WORSHIP ME PROPERLY!
There was one year where it started this junk and we were in the upper 90s by early March. Drought and wildfires descended on the land. Allegedly, next week we will be back in the 50s to 30s range. We have clover blooming in the yard and had Crane Flies at the doors last night. Very weird. Some folks Peach Trees are blooming.
I know it’s hard to believe, but I’ve never a book by JD Robb/Nora Roberts. It’s not a deliberate decision–it just never happened. Sounds like this might be the one to start with!
This one was terrific, Kim. But, no, that doesn’t sound odd. There are so many authors I’ve never read, including ones that surprise people.
Lesa, I’m really anticipating this one since you enjoyed it so much. Plus, I’m caught up on the series now. Looking forward to more info about the Urbans, etc. This is definitely one of my favorite series. Can’t believe we’re at #60!
I know, Kay! 60 in this series, along with everything else she writes? Unbelievable.
Of course, Jackie has been looking forward to this one since the last one came out. She has it on hold in Brooklyn and Palm Beach County.
Surprise! Jackie’s book came through from Cloud Library today.
Yes! I can’t wait to see what Jackie thinks.
Loved it!!!
❤❤❤
Needed it right now, Kaye.
