We started our morning at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Peter in Chains, then walked to Fountain Square. From there we headed to the Cincinnati Zoo. I haven’t been to near as many zoos as my friend, David, has, but this is my favorite of the ones I’ve seen. Thanks to my Mom, and sisters, Christie and Linda, for making my bucket list item come true. I wanted to see Fiona and the rest of the hippo bloat.
We went to Cincinnati and the zoo because I’m fascinated by the hippos, Fiona, the baby who was born premature, and now weighs over 2,000 pounds, and the entire family, the bloat – Tucker, Bibi, and baby Fritz. If you love animals, check out the photos. If you don’t care, we’ll catch up tomorrow for “What Are You Reading?”
Here’s my suggestion if you go to the zoo. Go in the late afternoon. The school groups are gone. But, best of all, the animals were sleeping in the morning, but they were active in the afternoon, at least the day we we were there. Terrific zoo day! And, here are just a few of my hippo photos.
I’m a big fan of Okapis.
My friend, David, volunteers at his local zoo, Glen, and the Okapis are his favorite as well.
I’m so jealous, I want to see Fiona. Have wanted to see her since she was born. Great pictures!
Lisa, That’s the reason we went to Cincinnati. We took in other sites, but we went because I wanted to see Fiona, and I wanted to see Fritz before they transfer him in a couple years.
Great photos Lesa.
Thanks, Susan.
Great photos. Love seeing Fiona and crew. I still remember the first time we went to the London Zoo to see Chi Chi, the giant panda, before they were a more common sight in this country. Hippos are among my favorites, with penguins and giraffes particularly.
Unfortunately, Jeff, we didn’t get to see the penguins this trip. We tried to cram so much in, and we all knew we had to go back a second time that day to see the hippos when they were active. They were sleeping in the morning. In addition, there was a short lecture about hippos in the afternoon, so we didn’t have time for the penguins. I love them, too.
Loved your photos and travel log~ what an interesting trip.
Thank you, Ann. It was a fun trip.
Wow! I loved the hippo pictures! You could put them in a children’s book. Hint!
Oh, Carol. Thank you, but you should see some of the pictures of that hippo family on Facebook. Much better pictures than mine!
What fun photos. My favourite was seeing your mom’s sweet little smile. I bet you girls were a handful for the poor woman when you were young. I can see it in your faces ha ha ha. And you made me laugh with your comment ‘just a few of my hippo photos’; makes me curious about how many hippo photos from this trip exist on your camera! I loved seeing them.
Actually, Lindy, my mom would tell you we were easy on her. Enough difference in our ages, for one thing. I was in college before my youngest sister was in high school. But, we always have a great time together, and love our family trips.
Oh, I love this–what a wonderful zoo! Glad you are having a great time with your family.
It is a wonderful zoo, Margie. Clean, and the animals seem content and well taken care of.
Great pictures! You are so lucky to have your sisters and Mom.
You’re right, Donna. I am lucky to have my Mom and sisters.
