First, the important question. How are you doing? Have you been quarantined now for six weeks or a month? It’s been a little over a month here. I’m reading a little more, two cozy mysteries over the weekend. But, it’s still difficult to find the right book.
YouTube videos still work the best for me, usually musicals. I watched Phantom of the Opera on Friday through “The Shows Must Go On.” Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musicals are being shown, one each weekend there. I watched a little “Dr. Who” on Sunday. And, in case you missed this link, and like Shakespeare, check it out for where you can find Shakespeare streaming. https://bit.ly/2xEpzl7 I haven’t watched it yet, but I want to see Macbeth from the Folger.
What are you doing? Back to reading? Baking? Watching TV? I know Kevin Tipple, a fellow blogger who comments here binged on “Bosch”. What were your distractions this week?
It's been just over four weeks since we got back from Florida, and we have pretty much been inside since. That first week or so I had several visits to the doctor (and once to the ER), but since then it's pretty much been one trip a week to the grocery and that's it. (Tuesday is the day.)
So, no real good distractions, but bad ones watching the "reopen" morons…but I don't want to go there. I am doing more reading, finally, though so far have not found anything that I really love. We end up watching three or four hours of distracting television a night – mostly Netflix – and Jackie watches hours of coverage that is too much for me.
My friend objects to the term "lockdown" as he thinks it smacks of prison, but I guess "self-quarantine" is probably more accurate. And no, I don't see things getting back to pre-Covid "normal" levels any time soon, by which I mean crowded sports arenas or concert halls or even movie theaters. Jackie believes this would be a lot easier in your twenties than at our age, but I disagree. Financially, we are in much better shape now than we were when we were young. Unlike so many, we just need to worry about staying healthy, not about feeding a family or paying a mortgage or car payments or school fees or the like. So, keep going and hope the morons in Washington don't blow it.
I agree, Jeff. I just read a fascinating Twitter thread about San Francisco in 1918, and how they blew it, throwing a no-mask party because people and businesses insisted on the right to stop wearing masks and to reopen the city. Philadelphia threw a parade with 200,000 people. Deaths shot up in both cities. It was that second spike, and deaths were higher the second time around. Someone even sent a bomb to the Public Health Officer in San Francisco who persisted in doing his job, insisting people wear masks. The "Anti-Mask League" opposed him. The newspaper opposed him. It sounds so familiar. I agree with you about those who demand we reopen, whether on the streets or in Washington. And, I'm not even going to make the comment that "they'll live to regret it." They may not.
And, I agree. As much as I don't like to see my travel curtailed, my shows cancelled, I'd rather be home safe. And, all I really need to do is stay healthy. But, I'm one of the lucky ones that I'm being paid to be home.
I'm at a month, and I'm more than ready for some face to fact human interaction.
I'm reading a little more than normal, mainly on weekends. My weekdays look pretty much the same since I'm working full time from hom.
Distractions? I'm working my way through season 4 of Murder, She Wrote and season 1 of the Mary Tyler Moore Show. Some friends have started a virtual rewatch of Once Upon a Time – one episode each week.
I know, Mark. I've been home since March 14, and I miss people. Oh, I've seen them twice at the grocery store, but it's not the same as seeing people I know. Funny, though. I'll probably miss this when I go back to work. And, I know the cats will!
We all need suitable distractions right now. Mary Tyler Moore certainly works!
It's been 6 weeks here, theoretically, as I've been working this whole time.
I'm talking on the phone more, reading a little more, trying not to watch too much TV.
It’s been about 6 weeks here. My mom fell and cracked her hip right at the beginning of the lockdown. She wasn’t able to stay at the rehab facility for more than a week because of the virus so I’ve been scheduling all of her at home therapy, nurses aid and visiting nurse appointments. That’s all winding down and I think she’ll be done after next week. She still needs help with some things but she’s back to using a cane instead of a walker which helps.
I’ve been reading more and we’ve been cleaning up and mulching the garden since we had a truckload of mulch delivered right before the virus hit. We’ve been limiting grocery runs to once a week and doing Zumba and yoga classes through Zoom.
Cooking and baking. and eating. Today I'm going to have my first go at scones. Vanilla bean scones. Wish me luck
My husband and I have be in quarantine for at least 6 weeks now. He's able to work from home, putting in lots of hours, and has been quite productive. Now he's moving on to yard and garden work. Meanwhile, I keep the house running, while reading and working on several projects of my own.
We've begun to limit our tv viewing and, particularly the news broadcasts. Jeff, I totally agree with you about the morons who demand we totally reopen the economy. I fear there will be disastrous results. PBS, Prime movies, and Netflix keep us entertained in the evening and we also have a pup we adopted last fall. I agree with one blogger who said that their dog keeps them on schedule and offers a lot of comfort. Spud certainly provides all of that for our household.
I hope everyone is staying safe!
Sounds like we're all about six weeks. Glen, still working. Sandie, taking care of her mother & household projects. Kaye, enjoying retirement. Jane, home projects and work. You are so right. Best thing to do is limiting TV & the news. I think we're all bright enough to know this could be a mess. Our governor is doing it in increments. If this week's reports look okay, he's allowing surgeries & dental appointments, but only because the facilities know if they have the personal protection equipment to do it properly. That's it. The only thing that he's allowing next week.
