It’s that time of year when there doesn’t seem to be enough time in the day. Of course, the work day is the same. But, I had books and a present and Christmas cards to open when I arrived home yesterday. (Yes, I was supposed to open that present now.) And, a friend to thank, and a Christmas letter to read, along with a wonderful newspaper story that’s going through my family. It’s about a 92-year-old veteran of World War II who we all know, and several of us had as a teacher in high school. So, as much as I’m loving Jane Cleland’s Glow of Death (she continues to top herself), I didn’t get it finished to review for today.
So, you all know what I’m currently reading. As my friend Kaye Wilkinson Barley said, at Jungle Red Writers, maybe I shouldn’t tell you how busy I’ve been. We’re all busy. Instead, just tell us what you’re reading.
Yes, it's nuts this time of year. We have two concerts this week – yesterday was a benefit for autism with Steve Earle & The Dukes, Graham Nash, and Shawn Colvin at Town Hall. Friday is a holiday concert at Barclays Center with James Taylor, Jimmy Buffett, and Sarah McLachlan.
Reading? The new Allen Eskens book you mention, THE HEAVENS MAY FALL (library book). So far, so good. Also MOTIVES FOR MURDER, edited by Martin Edwards, a collection of new stories by members of the Detection Club in honor of Peter Lovesey's 80th birthday. Authors include Catherine Aird, Simon Brett, Ann Cleeves, Michael Z. Lewin, Liza Cody, Ruth Dudley Edwards, among others.
Oooh, Jeff. I like the sounds of Friday's holiday concert. It's nice to know you're as "busy" as I am.
SpyFall, a mystery set in 1959 by John Helgenberger.
I'm reading MONKEEWRENCH by P.J. Tracy. I read THE SIXTH IDEA and loved it so I decided to go back and start the series from the beginning. I'm also reading THE GENIUS OF BIRDS by Jennifer Ackerman.
Thank you, Glen & Karen. Oh, Karen! Monkeewrench. I love that series. Some books are stronger than others, but I really like the series.
I love the Monkeewrench series too and reread them all just before a new one publishes. I see two or three new to me books listed here to put on my Mt. Everest size t-b-r list. Thanks all.
I finally finished the 800+ page The Bone Tree by Greg Iles (5 stars) and finally get to start Stripped Bare by Shannon Baker.
I am reading Margherita's Notebook thanks to your review. I have 100 pages left and am enjoying it very much.
