OK, speak up if you’re one of those people who read multiple books at a time. (Jeff, I’m pointing at
you.) That’s my topic for today because friends stopped by to visit last night, so I didn’t finish my current book. I’m almost always reading a couple books at a time, a mystery and something else.
So, this week, I’m finishing two books. One is for a book blog tour, Rebel Sisters by Marita Conlon-McKenna. It’s the story of the Irish Gifford sisters, and the 1916 Easter Rising. I’m also finishing Written Off, the first Mysterious Detective Mystery by E.J. Copperman. It’s not difficult to read two books at a time when the topics and the writing styles are so different.
I tend to read a novel, a nonfiction book, and a mystery quite often. Do you juggle your books? What are you reading right now?
I too read multiple books. I'm juggling Umberto Eco's Numero Zero, The Regional Office is Under Attack, Furiously Happy, and 52 Small Changes for the Brain. Happy Reading!
You got me. I generally have at least one book of stories going along with a novel (mostly mysteries, but much more diverse group these days than in the past), and sometimes non fiction as well. I'll start with a short story in the morning, then go on to something else.
Currently: Bill Pronzini's "Nameless" collection, ZIGZAG.
The new Longmire book by Craig Johnson, THE HIGHWAYMAN.
The Neil Gaiman collection you mentioned yesterday, THE VIEW FROM THE CHEAP SEATS.
I actually like several voices at the same time. Happy Reading to both of you, Page & Jeff!
I can't read multiple books at one time. I get so absorbed into one of them that I stop reading the other and then forget what happened when I go back. The exception is audio books. I can listen to one of those while reading something else.
Yesterday, I finished Fatal Brushstroke by Sybil Johnson, so today I will be starting to read Murder on Astor Place by Victoria Thompson. Yeah, I'm just a bit behind in the series. Similarly, I'm going to start The Last Coyote by Michael Connelly on audio today, another series I'm obviously behind on.
Just finished two more books by Robert Dugoni. Reading a book by a new author for me, Donna Leon called The Waters of Eternal Youth. Had a very hard time getting into it and really not sure if I even like it. She has a long list of books she has written which would be nice if I decide I ca for writings.
Depending on how things go, I usually read a book and a couple of magazines at the same time.
Currently reading Skeleton coast by Clive Cussler and Jack DuBrul, and New Legends of Pulp, an anthology.
I can understand, Mark, because it appears that most of your books are mysteries. Hard to read two of those at a time.
I haven't read Donna Leon, either, Charlotte, so I don't have an opinion. It's always nice to find an author with a body of work, though.
That's one way of handling it, Glen. I just recently got rid of a pile of magazines that were out of control, and I hadn't read any of them.
I can't read more than one book at a time. I more often than not get too wrapped up in what I am reading and would not want to juggle more than one plot line. I gave up on The Secrets of Flight today and just started Forever Beach by Shelley Noble.
It helps me if one is non-fiction and on a different topic than the fiction one. Sometimes, I feel really stressed for time. I am trying to finish a book that I really enjoy and would like to linger with, Born Bright by C. Nicole Mason but I have another one that must he read and reviewed this month. It is a long one with small print. Sigh! With a deadline looming and a buzy week coming next week, I am getting stressed. Have two physical therapy appointments, four doctor appointments (one with three parts to it!) all in one week.
I have always read more than one book at a time. =) Usually I'm in the middle of 3 or 4…
I like to read a romance ( or two ) a cozy mystery and a nonfiction book at the same time.
( I don't like to read mysteries late at night ).
I quite often have two books going at once and usually both mysteries. They have to be with different types of plots and protagonists who are no alike. This month I have a big stack of cozies to indulge in.
