Hopefully, I finished that police procedural last night, and moved on to a historical mystery. At least, I needed to do that in order to keep to my schedule for reviews this week. I do have Thursday off, so that will help. After this week, I’ll be back to reading for the blog. Although, actually, you all benefit from this reading as well. I review these books on my blog just before release date. Right now, I’m reading February and March releases.
What about you? Are you hunkering down for the weather we’re supposed to get in the Midwest and East? We’re expecting a mixture of sleet, ice and rain on Wednesday. Nothing I hate more, although I always blame snow and say that’s a four-letter word. My sister, Linda, sent me a cute cartoon yesterday, “Agnes” by Tony Cochran. A little boy is asked if he knows how snow happens. His answer is perfect. “Mom says it’s how God punishes people who have jobs.” (sigh – I’m working on Wednesday.)
Sending good wishes for your safety this week!
Not hunkering yet. We are in “stock up on food” stage, in case we have to stay in until Sunday (when it finally gets above 40 degrees). Good luck and be careful getting to work and back.
Thank you, Jeff! Once you’re stocked up, you’re good with food & books. Stay warm!
Lesa, another beautiful picture for us to start the day with. Enjoy each day to the fullest.
Thank you, Charlotte! I do enjoy each day! I hope you’re doing well. Sending a hug!
You new site is really lovely Lesa, the images are beautiful.
We finally got a day without rain, so my friend and i went for a walk around her area. If you just drove past it on the main road, as I did for many years, you’d think it was one big housing estate and nothing else, but once you start to look it is full of interesting history – crumbling old mansions, abandoned walled gardens, dovecots, fascinating graveyards – and today she showed me an old church, outside of the door of which is a sort of metal frame where a coffin would be stored before a funeral!
I too am stocking up on food, but it’s more a combination of Christmas stuff (which we really do not need – though some of it is for other people) and ‘Brexit nerves’ purchases. (Also my daughter-in-law had a special make of gin on her wish list and I wanted to get that for her – you could never find it in the village.) Despite telling my husband that I simply would not go to the shopping centre again before Christmas, I of course ended up there on my way home from Nancy’s – but today the main supermarket was a lot quieter, so I was able to get what I wanted without all the stress of last week’s ordeal.
Our weather forecast is nothing like yours – mostly just rain, damp, cloud, rain, repeat, at the moment, but as you know we had below freezing temperatures and sheet ice a little while ago, and it was indeed horrible. Do take care when you have to go to work.
Our good news is that our little local library has re-opened! I haven’t been in, but I know everyone is delighted. It will be open 4 days a week and you will be able to browse (as well as collect reservations) if you want to. I do want to borrow a local history book that they have, but I am always reluctant to go in anywhere if I have to give my track and trace details – I completely understand why they want them, I’d just rather not go in in the first place. I’ll think about it.
Rosemarykaye, I noticed you have been able to get a avatar by your message.
Is there a simple way to get one for my spot? Always had one till Lesa had to switch. I did look up Word Press for the answer and found it was way over my tech knowledge. If there is a simple way would you share with me and others if they would like to give it a try.
Thank you,
Charlotte
Charlotte – I would love to help but I have absolutely no idea where that avatar came from! It is one I use on other things, so maybe this website picked it up from there, but I certainly didn’t add it and don’t know how to. Maybe Lesa can help?
Really sorry not to be of any use.
Rosemary
Charlotte, I’m afraid I don’t know either. I’m sorry!
Cheese! Did you get cheese, Rosemary?
Your friend’s neighborhood sounds fascinating. So interesting what’s hidden when you don’t know what’s there. Especially that part about the metal frame to store the coffin.
I know. I shouldn’t do it, but every time I go to the grocery store, I buy more toilet paper because that’s what we had a shortage of when COVID started. And, I think we’re going to be hit by another bad wave after Christmas because people don’t have the sense to stay home and delay their family gatherings. I’d rather gather when my family is alive than cause one death by thinking we have to get together now.
