Let’s start the review of Jenn McKinlay’s romcom, The Attraction Distraction, by saying that cover has absolutely nothing to do with the storyline, except there’s a man and a woman in the book. There are serious Classics scholars on a hunt for a treasure on a deserted Greek island. There are no beach towels and palm trees. Instead, it’s the second novella in McKinlay’s Museum of Literature series.

Seven years earlier, Sarah Novak became the curator for the Museum of Literature in New York City. She’s responsible for the museum’s exhibits. But, when the museum’s director, Claire Macintosh, asks her to head to Greece to try to acquire a piece for the museum’s collection, she jumps at the chance. A billionaire has invited representatives from several museums to his home on Santorini. From there, he’s going to send them on a quest for a treasure he’s convinced could prove the truth behind Homer’s Odyssey and the Trojan War.

What Sarah didn’t think about with the snap decision to head to Greece is that other scholars are involved. One is Liam Maguire. The Irishman was Sarah’s boyfriend until she got the job he wanted seven years ago. Instead of congratulating her, he disappeared, and she has avoided him ever since. But, now they’re competitors in an unusual adventure.

But, Liam suggests they team up. Sarah’s still hurt and unforgiving. But, when someone attacks other scholars, she realizes Liam is the only one she can trust. But, will he have her back, or hurt her once again?

McKinlay’s romcoms are always humorous and romantic. The Attraction Distraction is another treat from a master of the lighthearted story.
