Well, that was a lost week. I could have read a number of books in the time I was home from work. I was out sick from work just as much time as I was there. I missed Monday, worked Tuesday and Wednesday seven hours, and left work an hour early each day because my eyes were hurting. I did go to the work clinic, got a prescription, but I had a virus and it just has to run its course. I missed the whole day yesterday, sleeping eighteen hours after getting that prescription.
And, when I was at work, I put a Quarantine sign on my office door, and kept it shut. I love my staff. When I finally went back to work yesterday, I found a “Contamination Station” cart outside my door. Loved it!
But, I can’t read when I’m sick. I don’t feel like doing anything, really. I didn’t finish the book I’m reviewing for a journal. I cuddled and slept with the cats. I watched episodes of NUMB3RS from 2006 and 2007.
I think I saw every episode when that TV show originally ran. And, now I’m watching them on ion.
So, without any apology, I have no book review today. I’ll get back on track. I’m glad I was sick this week, though, before it’s time to go to Left Coast Crime. It’s in the 80s in Phoenix, and I hope those temperatures stay. I could use some heat right now.
So, you have two choices today. Tell me what you read this past week while I was sleeping. Or, tell me what you do when you’re home sick and just can’t read.
When I'm sick, I love watching horror/scifi movies. Like you, I never feel like reading and if I did, I would never remember what I read.

Lesa, I hope you feel better soon! When I'm sick like that – as I was before we left for Florida – all I can do is sit or lie around on the couch. It is as much as I can do to read a short story, and books are out of the question.
This week I read Chris Grabenstein's ESCAPE FROM MR. LEMONCELLO'S LIBRARY, a fun YA extolling books and libraries. It was fun. Also read a free downloaded ebook of short stories, GUN SEX by Pearce Hansen. Also GAME OF MIRRORS, an Insp. Salvo Montalbano book by Andrea Camilleri (who recently had his 90th birthday). I've got one more Camilleri here to read, and there will be a collection of his stories out soon.
Oh, Lesa. I'm so sorry you've been so sick. When I'm sick I only want to sleep. That's it.
I read Mike Orenduff's newest pot thief while you were feeling puny – The Pot Thief Who Studied Georgia O'Keeffee. I liked it lots. Since then I've picked up a couple books that I've put back down, so I won't mention those.
Feel better, sweetie!!!!
xxoo
I'm glad you're feeling better. If I'm sick enough to to sleep during the day then I usually just watch TV.
Last night I finished re-reading Grean Rider by Kristen Britain. I'm also reading a non-fiction book, Rescuing Eden PreservingAmerica's Historic Gardens.
My local library is doing book bingo so both books fit categories for that. They printed up bingo cards and each square has a book category like a non-fiction book, a book over 500 pages, a classic, and a book set in the future. When you fill up the card you get a prize.
So sorry you've bee ill, but I'm also glad that it was now and not later this month. Hopefully, you'll be back in full health for LCC (which I am so looking forward to!!!).
When I'm sick, which I was for a seemingly endless time in December, I watch TV too. Sometimes shows like Criminal Minds or NCIS (both of which I'm gradually re-watching) and sometimes I watch ones like Lewis (my Hathaway fix) or Foyle's War. Sometimes even movies like The Jane Austen Book Club or Sense and Sensibility.
I'm reading Lisa Gardner's new book, Find Her, right now. It's a good one.
I hope you feel better soon. When I'm sick all I want to do is sleep. As I start to recover, I'll watch favorite dvds of the BBC Jane Austen series — Pride and Prejudice, etc.
I just finished this month's book for my book cub — The Boys in the Boat: Nine Americans and Their Epic Quest for Gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, by Daniel James Brown. It was excellent.
Do you all know how much I love you? You answered both questions! Sounds like reading is just too much effort when we're all sick. But, now that I'm on the road to recovery, I like to see what you're all reading. Jeff! One of my favorite authors, Chris Grabenstein! With his juvenile or adult books. Sandy, we did book bingo for two summers here for summer reading. It's nice to see you doing it during the winter.
Hugs to all of you! And, thank you.
I read Aunty Lee's Chilled Revenge just now.
When I'm sick, I watch the Game Show Network.
I agree with most of the other commenters–when I'm feeling bad, only TV seems to work for me. It gets me out of bed (no TV in the bedroom) and takes my mind off my symptoms (mostly). I'm rarely sick, but last year I lost 7-8 days intermittently during January with a bug, although I had had a flu shot.
As for books, I just started Gigi Pandian's The Masquerading Magician, which follows The Accidental Alchemist. Quite original and lots of fun. I recently finished Beth Kendrick's Second Time Around. Every time I read one of her new books, I end up searching for her previous ones because they make me feel good!
Speaking of feeling good, I hope you feel better soon, Lesa. LCC is looming, and I'm looking forward to seeing you there.
Margie, I totally agree. I actually brought home a Beth Kendrick after reading a previous one. But, then I just wasn't in the mood. Unless something is scheduled, I'm definitely a mood reader. Actually, I'm glad I got sick when I did instead of later. It gives me time to regroup before LCC.
Glen, I was a fan of the Game Show Network when I had DirecTV. Now, I only have basic cable so I don't get it. Old versions of Match Game and Password.
Lesa… hope you are back to yourself soon. Don't forget fluids. Truly very important. xoxo Rest
I'm glad you are feeling better. I sleep a lot when I don't feel well but I do try to get in a little reading, too. It's a time when I don't have to go anywhere or do anything else.
The most important thing is to take care of yourself, being sick is not a race to get things done. I have trouble reading when I am sick too. A doctor that I had about 30 years ago always prescribed a hot toddy (still have never had one) and three video movies. I usually channel hop until I find something that I really like. Reruns of a favorite TV series are my cup of tea.
I am still reading The Pater by Elliot Jager. It is about what is like to be Jewish and childless. I am not Jewish but it I am learning how very important it is when you are Jewish to have a child or children. It is deep within the culture and presents a lot of feelings of loss of happiness and being left out and more@
This has been an awful season for viruses and infections. I'm sorry you've been sick, Lesa, and hope you gain full recovery soon! I've been sick for three weeks, and it's getting so old.
Like you, I find it nearly impossible to read when I'm sick, so I pass the time by sleeping and watching movies and making up new characters/dialogue for my WIP.
Happy Sunday, my friend!
I'm so sorry you were sick and hope you're now on the mend. Viruses are tough on us. I usually sleep and whine until it's over.
Last week I finished Lisa Jackson's "You Don't Want to Know" and started Jacqueline Seewald's "Dark Moon Rising." Lisa's book is creepy and high tension. Jacqueline's is creepy, tense, and sexy. I may have to read something calm and sweet for my next book to settle down my adrenaline flow.
Drinking lots of fluids, promise! And, I just got up to get something, and realized I could breathe! That's a triumph right there. I did run out yesterday and bought 3 kinds of soup at Zoup's. Nothing I had at home even tasted good so I haven't been eating much. But, Zoup's mushroom barley soup was wonderful. Today, it's Italian wedding soup. So, at least soup tastes good.
I love you all and your support. Hugs to everyone.
Lesa, I've become a big fan of Idiotest from the GSN.
