If you know how long The Shell Seekers is, you know why I haven’t finished another book yet. In fact, I just started a mystery, the first in a new series. I think that’s the cutest cover on Linda Reilly’s Fillet of Murder.
So, I think it’s been a few weeks since we talked about what you’re reading. I know my Mom has been enjoying the beautiful weather, sitting on her front porch to read. Have you been finding time to read? I certainly hope you’re enjoying something good. Please let us know what you’re reading!
And, as long as you stopped by, have you entered this week’s contests yet? Today’s the last day to enter to win The Revenant of Thraxton Hall by Vaughn Entwistle, Carola Dunn’s Heirs of the Body, or Craig Johnson’s Any Other Name. Check last Thursday and Friday’s posts for details.
No matter what, I hope you’re enjoying a good book!
Uncle Fred in the Springtime by P.G. Wodehouse.
Just finished Murder and Moonshine by Carol Miller. Good book. I have the second in the series on hold at the library.
Blood Sweep by Steven Havill in print.
The Adventures of Cash Laramie and Gideon Miles in e-book.
Both are good ones and both will be going with me today to the hospital as we spend time with the cancer docs.
the new John Sandford is supposedly in transit to me at the library. It has been in transit to fill my hold for three days now which might be a sign it is lost. So hoping not!
An old favorite, Bill?
I'm not familiar with that series, Karen.
I'm sure you need some good books to keep your mind occupied, Kevin. I hope your John Sandford book shows up soon!
I just finished Joanne Fluke's Double Chocolate Brownie Murder–Lesa, there's even a third man in the mix now! Yesterday I started A Bollywood Affair by Sonali Dev, which I won. So far it looks like fun.
I'm listening to the audio version of The Death Cure, the third book in the Maze Runner trilogy.
Too many, Margie. My sister quit that series, too, and a co-worker told her about that third man. Just ridiculous. Good! I'm glad your other book looks like fun.
How's the reader on that audio book, Sandy?
I just finished The Bookman's Tale and now I'm reading The Covenant of Genesis by Andy McDermott.
I just checked out two books from the library.
The History of the Ancient World by Susan Wise Bauer
One Nation,Under Gods: A New American History by Peter Manseau
Thank you, Page!
I enjoy seeing what everyone is reading, especially when it turns out to be titles I'm not familiar with. Then, I end up checking to see what the books are about. Thanks for sharing!
I'm reading The Dismantling by Brian DeLeeuw for a blog tour. It's about organ brokers. OK so far. And I'm listening to Invisible City by Julia Dahl. Totally and completely enjoying that one. You reviewed it didn't you? I am very excited that the second book will be out soon.
Just finished The Book Stops Here, a very good cozy!
Yes, I did review Invisible City, Kay. I liked that one. Not so sure about the subject of The Dismantling. Doesn't sound like my type.
Ah, Holdenj, Kate Carlisle. I enjoy her books! You're right, a good cozy.
Lesa I'm looking for something to hold me over until Louise Penny's new book comes out. I was a huge fan of Ralph Cosham. Losing his presence is a great emptiness of its own, and I feel uncomfortable even worrying about a new reader. I loved his voice so much. Now I'm trying to love what he gave us while hoping to be able to hear all my Three Pines characters in a new voice.
Kevin, my thoughts are with you.Thank all goodness for books that help us through.
Thank you for your note to Kevin, Reine. I'm sure you understand needing those books to see us through. On a lesser scale, I do, too. Dennis Lehane's books helped me through some long hours waiting in the hospital with my father-in-law.
Thank you, Reine. Much appreciated. Books have always been an escape for me, but good ones are even more desperately needed these days.
No sign of the new Sandford book at the library so far, Lesa. I wish it would get there.
The reader is pretty good.
I am reading The Beekeeper's Daughter by Santa Montefiore. So far it is a good read. Her books are hit or miss for me but this one is holding my interest. Next up is the new Max and Annie by Carolyn Hart. I had to give up on the Joanne Fluke books-they just got dumb. I do have her Hallmark mystery movie on my DVR to watch though. Hope you have a good week.
And, I donated my copy of the Sandford book to our library, Kevin, or I'd send it to you. Sorry.
Makes a difference, doesn't it, Sandy?
I agree with you, Sharon, on Joanne Fluke. I enjoyed Max and Annie, though, and I hope you do.
I finished Napier's Bones by Robert Spiller, the newest book in his Bonnie Pinkwater mystery series. Top notch!
Next was the sci fi The Forever War by Joe Haldeman.
And now I'm reading Seeds, a post apocalyptic adventure by Chris Mandeville.
Secrets of a Charmed Life, by Susan Meissner. WWII, evacuation of London's children, great characters and story.
I am reading Killer Crab Cakes by Livia J. Washburn. Even though there was a desert cook off coming up in the story, the murders so far are separate from that. I like her boyfriend in the story.
Also reading Devil's Eye by Rebecca Jean Downey. I am liking her concise but full of meaning writing. Also the story has to do with the Mexican gun running and drug cartel. Learning about New Mexico's history.

Absolutely no need or reason to apologize for donating it, Lesa. The book will turn up here for me at some point.
Lots of variety, Patricia. The Forever War is on my all-time TBR pile, meaning I want to read it someday, but it always seems to be someday.
Oh, Secrets of a Charmed Life sounds good, Harold. I like the topic.
Carol, I'm one of those who usually hides my head in the sand when it comes to the Mexican cartels. I heard a lot about them living in Arizona for 8 1/2 years.
Me too–regarding the cartels, Lesa!
Kevin, I think the harder the times, the better and more engrossing the book needs to be.
To both you and Lesa, I'd like to affirm my understanding that books are good medicine and that you and Lesa are great "book docs."
I am not in Lesa's class.
I am though also very sick of the cartel news.
I am reading for the second time, as I do not want to miss one tiny word, Alyssa Maxwell's ready to be released book Murder at Beechwood. It is even more fantastic as the books prior to this in the Gilded Newport Series. This is one FANTASTIC historical cozy series with so much more than just a cozy. The research that went into these books is phenomenal and I love the history along with the same type of situations that we have more than a hundred years later than when this story was told. You should not miss this series.
Cynthia
Just finished the CD of The Art Forger by B. A. Shapiro as well.
I love cozies of all types too, and will be anxious to read Linda Reilly's book, Fillet of Murder too.
Cynthia, I'll have to remember this series when I get back from NY. I'll have to try it.
Fillet of Murder was a success. Neither my sister nor I guessed the killer.

Finished BLOOD SWEEP this afternoon. Mighty good read.
Wasn't it, Kevin? I gree.
Kevin… "I am not in Lesa's class."
Kevin and Lesa… I just saw this comment you, Kevin, made regarding my statement where I said that books are good medicine and that you and Lesa are great "book docs."
While I visit many blogs per day, there are only two that I consult each day to learn something about the specific books that are out there. I don't have time to read everything. Your blogs are different and informative, as well as entertaining–each in your own way–and that's why I need both of you.
Thank you, Reine. And, I hope Kevin comes back and reads that because I agree with you. I don't have a chance to look at anyone's blog every day, but I check out three regularly; Kevin's, Jen Forbus' and Kaye Barley's. They're all different, but I'm always looking to say what they're writing.
Lesa, I love Kaye Barley's blog! How did I ever leave her's out! Now I am going to have a look at Jen Forbus'. Many thanks!
Just finished Kate Atkinson's A GOD IN RUINS. While it's not LIFE AFTER LIFE it is definitely worth reading.
Unfortunately (I guess) I am snowed under with library books, including (up next) Craig Johnson's new Longmire book, DRY BONES; Steven F. Havill's BLOOD SWEEP; Anne Hillerman's ROCK WITH WINGS; Neil Gaiman's collection TRIGGER WARNING; plus half a dozen others.
Don't even get me started on the 300 ebooks I have or the shelves full of books (Andrea Camilleri's GAME OF MIRRORS is at the top of that pile).
Currently also reading Lawrence Block's author pieces, THE CRIME OF OUR LIVES.
And the new Dr. Siri book by Colin Cotterill – perhaps my favorite current mystery series – is out!
Jeff M.
P.S. – Got the information about the blog from long-time (like 35 years long) friend Bill Crider.
Welcome, Jeffrey! Bill Crider has always been kind to my blog. We've never met, but I truly admire him and his work.
Oh, you have some good ones ahead of you – DRY BONES, BLOOD SWEEP. I'm reading ROCK WITH WINGS right now. Hated to come back from lunch because I only have 90 pages to go.
I think you have more books backed up than I do. Good luck with that!
And, welcome.
Lesa
You're welcome, Reine!
Just found this …and I don't know what to say. Truly honored, Reine and Lesa. Thank you.
You're welcome, and hugs, Kevin.
Hugs, Kevin. xo
