No lunch hour yesterday. Instead, I went to the dentist. (Look, Ma, no cavities!) But, that took my reading time, so I didn’t finish Bill Crider’s Between the Living and the Dead.
Since I’m also reading a nonfiction book, Janice Kaplan’s The Gratitude Diaries, I’ll phrase it this way. I actually find myself grateful that I’m reading Bill Crider’s book this weekend. The Sheriff Dan Rhodes mysteries are terrific police procedurals. But, they’re also so funny! I was laughing aloud last night when reading a scene with a bull heading toward a Walmart.
So, I’m grateful for Bill Crider’s book. It makes me laugh.
You have a choice today. What are you reading this weekend? Or, if you’re really enjoying this weekend’s book, what is it, and why are you grateful for it?
(And, I’m always grateful for a good book.)
Me too! I mean, I'm going to be reading Bill's book too. I bet I'm the only one here (well, this morning anyway) who had one of Bill's books dedicated to him.
Jeff M.
I'm still reading my blog tour book. Sigh. Only a few more pages. And then, I have no idea, but I'm thinking I might treat myself to Linda Castillo's new Kate Burkholder book. As a reward. Yay!

Congratulations, Jeff. There's just something special about seeing your name in a book, isn't there? I have no doubt we'll both enjoy this book.
That would be a terrific reward, Kay, and it sounds as if you deserve one. Sorry about that book.
Thanks, Lesa!
You're welcome, Bill. Thanks for a good book!
I'm still reading The Cat, The Sneak and the Secret. It'd normally take me about two days but it's been a week and I'm still working on it. I just haven't had much time to read.
Just finished If Catfish Had Nine Lives by Paige Shelton. My favorite Country Cooking School Mystery so far. Like you, Lesa, I liked the Pony Express storyline. Starting Chasing Away the Devil by Susan Rodgers Cooper.
I'm reading The Bookseller of Kabul by Asne Seierstad and The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss. I'm grateful for them because they take to places I've never been and show what other worlds are like.
That's what comes from dressing up as a tube of toothpaste! (Or were you the toothbrush?) 🙂
I think I was the toothpaste, but I don't remember, Linda. Mom has pictures!
I'll be getting Bill Crider's book tonight, and starting on it ASAP.
Hmm, Sandy. Are you really busy, or just not the right time for that book? Just curious because when I put off reading a book, it's not usually the right book for my mood.
That was a good one, wasn't it Karen? It remains my favorite. I really enjoyed that Pony Express angle.
Thank you, Page! You do have two exotic books to take you away. Aren't books wonderful?
It's a good one, Glen.
This morning I finished The Knockoff by Lucy Sykes and Jo Piazza, featuring the dog-eat-dog world of fashion publications. The ending was so satisfying–I love it when someone gets his/her comeuppance. I highly recommend it! Now I am finally starting The Little Paris Bookshop. I recently gave in and bought it because there were just too many holds at both of the libraries I visit.
I hope you enjoy The Little Paris Bookshop, Margie. I agree with you. It's wonderful to see a deserving character get her comeuppance.
Anne Cleeland Murder in Thrall. I did forget to go to the street fair, and was almost late for the baseball tournament…
Funny, Karen! Must be a good book.
Funny, Karen! Must be a good book.
I'm just now starting VANISHED by Elizabeth Heiter! It looks terrific!
I'm reading Identity Theft by Laura Lee and I'm struggling with it a bit – not enjoying it as much as I'd hope. But then, maybe it hits too close to home – I took a sabbatical from the internet in the early days because I kept 'running into' people who were not being truthful. But THAT's a story for another day. And I met my husband on the internet (in a MUSH), so it wasn't all bad, either. :O)
So I'm trying to give it a fair shake because I'm not one of those who believe that just because a book isn't my cup of tea that it is 'bad'.
Hope you enjoy it, Reine!
LuAnn, I totally agree with you. That doesn't make it bad. However, sometimes, it means it's not for me, and I quit.
I'm reading Hooked on Ewe by Hannah Reed and enjoying it. Pretty cool to see your recommendation on the back cover 🙂
Lesa, I finally finished the book. Both my boyfriend and I have had family issues to deal with for several weeks so it's been really hard to find time to read when I wasn't to tired to concentrate.
I just finished Shotgun Moon by K.C. McRae, written as a standalone mystery (loved it!) and today will start reading Fangs Out by David Freed, the second book in the Cordell Logan series.
I am reading A Place We Knew Well by Susan Carol McCarthy. I really like the main character but the book seems a bit slow in pace. I am hoping that it picks up soon. It is about the cold war and Cuban Missile Crisis. I remember going home on a very quiet school bus and everyone crying. Also remember not being able to sleep that night because of worry. The book is set in Florida so the everything is intensified.
Thank you, Sharon. I always find it pretty cool as well, since I never know that they're going to use one of my reviews. It's always a pleasant surprise.
That makes sense, Sandy. Family always comes first. I'm sorry you've both been so tied up.
I always find your reading interesting, Patricia. So often, they're titles I've never heard of.
Good luck with that, Carol. Don't you hate it when it's a subject you really want to read, or a book you really want to read, and then the pace isn't right, or it fails to keep your attention?
