I could have stayed up last night, finished my book, and blogged at some ungodly hour. But, I didn’t. It was a long day – a good one, but long. I started work at 7:30, went home to feed the cats late in the day, back to work, and arrived home at 9:30 p.m. We had a retirement party for our library director who is retiring after twenty years as CEO, and longer with the library system. Wonderful party, including a mayoral proclamation and a champagne toast. But, it was a long day; my feet hurt, and I didn’t feel like finishing my book.
It’s a wonderful book. I do intend to finish Nina George’s The Little Paris Bookshop tomorrow. And, I’ll be starting Linda Castillo’s latest Kate Burkholder book, The Last Storm. So, that’s my weekend reading. And, in between books, I’m heading to the school system’s summer production of “Mary Poppins“. The Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation’s summer production was fabulous last year, the best production of “Fiddler on the Roof” that I ever saw. So, between a retirement party, a school musical, and books, it’s a busy weekend.
What are you reading this weekend? Do you have time to fit it in?
As is typical with me I have more than one thing going, often (as in this case) one novel, one book of stories, and one non-fiction book.
Currently those are:
Ken Bruen, GREEN HELL (the latest Jack Taylor)
Len Deighton, DECLARATIONS OF WAR (his only ss collection)
Tim Kreider, WE LEARN NOTHING: Essays and Cartoons (his op ed in last Sunday's NY Times made me look him up)
Plus we have a (geezer alert!) concert tonight: Dion! We've seen him in each of the last two years and he sounds great. You'd never guess he was (gasp) 75.
Jeff M.
Busy weekend for you, too, Jeff. I'm with you. Quite often I have a couple going at the same time. If I wasn't trying to finish the Little Paris Bookshop, I probably would. Enjoy Dion!
Sounds like you've got a lot planned and how fun to get to see Mary Poppins. Have not ever seen that as a stage production. I will say that if I had the new Linda Castillo book at my house, I'd be tempted to hunker down and just read. However, I have it preordered for next week. I love that series.
Ah, but Kay. My friend's husband always makes us wonderful dinners before we go to a play. So, I have good food, good company and then a show this evening. It's worth going out once in a while even when you have to leave a good book behind.
Our younger son and daughter-in-law are here this weekend and we'll be spending some time at the beach (Santa Cruz, CA) with them and our older son today and celebrating some birthdays tonight. But I always find at least a few minutes to read! Right now it's The Killer Next Door by Alex Marwood, recommended to me by Terry Shames. I'm already intrigued. I'm looking forward to what you have to say about The Little Paris Bookshop.
I'm re-reading a fantasy book, Storyteller by Any Thomson. Or I should say trying to read in between other things.
Have you read The Little Paris Bookshop, Margie? My review will be up tomorrow,
Sounds like a busy weekend for everyone, Sandy.
I just finished Whisper Beach by Shelley Noble and started The Book of Speculation by Erika Swyler. Whisper Beach was okay. I liked Suze better than Van. The new book is different.
A friend is reading The Book of Speculation right now, Sharon. She likes it so far.
