I have a pile of books that I’m sampling this week, but the one I’m carrying with me to work is Jayne Ann Krentz’ Secret Sisters. I used to read her books on a regular basis, but when I looked back at the blog, I must not have read one of her novels in over eleven years. I guess it’s been a while! Secret Sisters is romantic suspense, a novel about secrets from eighteen years earlier that come back to haunt two women. I’m only seventy pages into it, but I’m enjoying it so far. I’m also reading a book for a journal review, and testing a couple other titles.
What are you reading this week? Inquiring minds want to know.
I have three books going at the moment.
An ARC of an upcoming YA novel Into the Dim by Janet B Taylor
Museum of Extraordinary Things by Alice Hoffman
Seekers by Daniel Boorstin
I'm surprised my wife hasn't read that one yet as she reads everything by Krentz/Jayne Castle/Amanda Quick.
We're getting read to leave for Florida soon so reading has been down, but I'm reading the 500-page LEVIATHAN WAKES, the first book in The Expanse series (a lot more comprehensible than the SyFy series) by James S. A. Corey. Also short stories, of course.
I'm reading a ARC of DESIGN FOR DYING by Renee Patrick (Rosemarie & Vince Keenan).
I just finished The Nature of the Beast last night. Why did I save this one for a treat? I mean, it was a treat, but wow. Anyway, now I'm on to A Killing in the Hills by Julia Keller. I've wanted to read the Bell Elkins series for a while. I'll be interested in hearing how you do with the Krentz book. I've read many of her books and enjoyed all of them. But it's been a while for me too. I used to love her Arcane series.
I'm reading Sweet Pepper Hero by J.J. Cook and am enjoying it.
I have two books going at the moment.
In print, I am reading MURDER IS AN ART by the one and only Bill Crider. This will reviewed for FFB in a week or two thanks to the good folks of the Plano Public Library System.
In e-book form, I am working on the latest mystery from author BJ Bourg, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN. A very good mystery from Amber Quill Press which is closing its doors in a few weeks. Go pick this up while you can.
I'm reading Slayed on the Slopes by Kate Dyer-Seeley. I just started it last night after finishing Better Homes a Corpses by Kathleen Bridge.
I'm sorry, everyone, that I'm late getting back. I was sidetracked by the death of Alan Rickman. Since I do the social media for the library, I was handling Alan Rickman posts – Facebook, Twitter, Instagram. It's a sad loss for film & theater.
Love to see what you're all reading, though. Jeff, your wife will probably like this one.
I'm in the middle of Mycroft Holmes by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and co-writer, and I'm enjoying it. On the non-fiction side, I'm reading Tosha Silver's Outrageous Openness.
Margie, I'm leading the book discussion for Mycroft Holmes for our book club late in the year. It is good, isn't it? I actually drifted somewhere in the middle, bogging down a little, but it came back together.
I'm reading The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith. It's intense. Love it.
I am reading A Man Called Ove. Another book blog I follow listed it as her favorite read last year. I am enjoying it. I just finished The Year of Living Danishly by Helen Russell. I liked that one also.
I'm reading all of Nelson DeMille's John Corey novels. Just finished Wild Fire and started The Lion.
I reading an ARC if Rules of Murder by Julianna Deering. It is difficult to get used to pace after the fast gallop of the previous book I read, this one is a slow cancer. The author thought it would be fun to write a mystery where all ten of the rules of mystery writing are broken. Now I keep looking for the broken rules.
Thank you! Reine, I haven't yet read the first of those books, and I need to do that.
It sounds like one I wouldn't get excited about, Carol. I like the rules.
