I just started Eloisa James’ romance, Seven Minutes in Heaven. It’s delightful, but I’ll probably be reading it every Thursday when we talk for the next few weeks. I’m in the middle of the mystery reading for the July issue of Library Journal, and next week I’ll be in New York City for Book Expo. So, there isn’t a lot of time to read a romance.
For the next couple weeks, what are you reading is going to depend on you. So, today, while I’m around during the day, tell us all what you’re reading. I’m looking forward to our conversation.
Finished The Long Count (John Q, #1) by J.M. Gulvin last night. Looking around for something new for today. I'm sure there must be a book around here somewhere.
Non fiction: Pamela Paul, MY LIFE WITH BOB: Flawed Heroine Keeps Book of Books, Plot Ensues
Short stories:
Walter Tevis (who wrote THE HUSTLER and THE MAN WHO FELL TO EARTH), FAR FROM HOME (1981 science fiction collection)
Lee Child, NO MIDDLE NAME: The Complete Collected Jack Reacher Short Stories (418pp.)
Patrick Millikin, ed., THE HIGHWAY KIND: Tales of Fast Cars, Desperate Drivers, and Dark Roads. Includes stories by James Sallis, Michael Connelly, George Pelecanos, Joe R. Lansdale, Wallace Stroby.
These are all library books.
On the Kindle, I read Jodi Taylor's A SYMPHONY OF ECHOES, second Chronicles of St. Mary's book. I have three other library ebooks downloaded (naturally, three from my holds came in one after the other), and have started with AGENTS OF DREAMLAND by Caitlin R. Kiernan, described as "a new Lovecraftian horror novella."
This morning my book is THE DOCTOR AND THE ROUGH RIDER by Mike Resnick. It is described as a rollicking western with a steampunk twist. I am enjoying the story, but I haven't decided if I am rollicking.
I finished Kale to the Queen by Nell Hampton. It was a fun read and no love triangle (so far) 😀 No I am reading The Book of Summer by Michelle Gable.
Still reading THE DRY by Jane Harper. I am enjoying it so far…I can feel the Australian heat – great setting.
And then I am reading a couple of 2017 Arthur Ellis Award nominees for best mystery novel in Canada. The awards are were given out in Toronto last night.
First time reading these authors:
WISHFUL SEEING by Janet Kellough
STILL MINE by Amy Stuart
I bet you can find something to read, Bill.
That's always the way, isn't it, Jeff? Everything comes in at once.
Oh, now, Karen. It's almost the end of the week. A little rollicking is in order.
Sharon, I'm right there with you. Not a fan of the love triangles.
But, Grace. You didn't tell us who won the Arthur Ellis awards. Now, I'm going to have to look it up.
Oh, I see. I think the Arthur Ellis awards will be announced tonight.
Good morning to everyone. Trust you had a great week with outstanding books.
I finished reading Imminent Peril by Melissa F Miller. It was the 10th one in the series, which had just come out. Now I have to wait for the next one. She did say there would be another one. That made me happy. The waiting is so awful. At least I know there will be another one. Have enjoyed all of these books.
Finished The Lawyer by John Ellsworth. New author for me it was good.
Still reading Hide and Seek by M J Arlidge.
Reading Secrets Girls Keep by John Ellsworth, second book in this series.
Have a great week, hope you get a lot of reading time in.

Since I don't have anything in at the library I'm re-reading Seanan McGuire's October Daye fantasy series. I'm on book number 2, A Local Habitation.
Good morning, Charlotte! Thanks for sharing your books from this week, and for the reading wishes. I hope everyone has a chance to get reading done. And, for those of us who work, it may be a long weekend. More reading time!
Sandy, Like you, I have nothing in at the moment from the library. Lots of items on waiting lists, but nothing in. If you're re-reading, you already know you have a good book.
Lesa: I was not deliberately being a tease about the Arthur Ellis awards. I left at 9:00 for my group walk/hike and now I am back. Got the date wrong – the awards are being given out TONIGHT (not last night). So stay tuned for the winners.
Just finished Pst Crimes by Glen Erik Hamilton. Glad to see an author who spells 'Glen' Right! Something of a vengeance novel with mystery in there if you look hard enough.
Starting Inca Gold by Clive Cussler. The title about says it all.
I didn't think you were, Grace. It's easy to get the date wrong. That's OK. Teasing you!
One of my favorite books, Glen – Past Crimes. I like the character.
Amanda Quick – The Girl Who knew too Much. C,S, Harris – Where the Dead Lie. Jeffrey Deaver – The Burial Hour. All from the library. I just finished Kaleidoscope by Dorothy Gilman.
Lesa, here are last night's winners.
BTW, I found out about STRANGE THINGS DONE from your review here. It is a good debut. I have not read THE FORTUNATE BROTHER.
And oddly, the Bony Blithe Award (cozy) will be announced at a separate event TODAY.
2017 Arthur Ellis Awards for Excellence in Canadian Crime Writing Winners
Best Novel, Donna Morrissey, The Fortunate Brother, Viking Canada
Best First Novel sponsored by Kobo, Elle Wild, Strange Things Done, Dundurn Press
Glen and Lesa: I also read and liked PAST CRIMES. Van Shaw is an interesting protagonist.
Finished The Hit By David Bakducci and I started reading The Wonder of
Of Birds and Shelter me by Juliette Faye. Had an intestinal buy, felt so bad that couldn't read! That is really sick for me.
Oh, Gram. It's been a while since I read an Amanda Quick or Jayne Ann Krentz. I really should read one again.
Thank you, Grace! I knew you'd come through with the winners.
I'm sorry you've been sick, Carol. And, isn't it awful to be home, to have the time to read, but to be too sick to read? Hate that!
