I’m a day early this week, but I’ve been working on those big monthly posts, Treasures in My Closet, so I haven’t had time to finish a book. I’ve really just started the second Ishmael Jones mystery by Simon R. Green, Dead Man Walking. I like Ishmael’s deadpan comments. And, black humor is right up my alley.
So, while I’m adding titles that might put more books on your TBR piles, what books have you been reading? Did you finish anything good this week? Or, are you into something you’re enjoying? We’d love to know!
Started reading NIGHT SCHOOL, the new Jack Reacher novel, last night.
About halfway through KILLING THYME by Leslie Budewitz. I really enjoy her Spice Shop mysteries…I have visited Seattle's Pike Place Market several times, and I wish they really had such an excellent spice shop there. Next is NO FARM, NO FOUL, a new series by Peg Cochran, and one of my perennial favourite series, MURDER OF A CRANKY CATNAPPER by Denise Swanson.
Our library was closed for four days over the Thanksgiving break, and, even though I have plenty of books of my own I could have started, scarcity mentality kicked in and I went on a wild request binge ordering a bunch of books from my library list. Quite a few have come in now, so I'm spoiled for choice, but I'm looking forward to Jane L. Rosen's NINE WOMEN, ONE DRESS. It's a bit "chick-lit-ty" (nttawwt), but story is intriguing: how the latest iteration of "the little black dress" affects the lives of nine different women. As my aunt used to say, every woman needs a black dress and a string of pearls in her wardrobe.
I just started A Killer Kebab by Susannah Hardy. I just picked up Troll Bridge by Neil Gaian from the library. It's a short graphic novel so I'll probably take a break from the mystery and read that later.
I'm reading The Graveyard Speaks, a horror novel by Hunter Shea.
Love to see what you're all reading. Deb, I read Nine Women, One Dress when it first came out. It was a fun, sweet story. Really enjoyed it, and passed it on to a friend who needed something light at the time. She enjoyed it, too.
I'm reading Terry Goodkind's new thriller The Nest.

I've just started some and almost finished some…
Just finished Joe R. Lansdale collection of western/horror stories, DEADMAN'S CROSSING, which is not for those of delicate sensibilities. Also, a collection that is for mystery readers who like older stuff, THE PURPLE FLAME & Other Stories by Frederick Irving Anderson. Most of these were originally published (most in the Saturday Evening Post) in the 1920s and 1930s.
Currently reading THE VINYL DETECTIVE: WRITTEN IN DEAD WAX, the first in the series by Andrew Cartmel. That Simon Green book is on hold, and I will be picking up the third Allen Eskens book at the library today.
I didn't see this yesterday because we were seeing a matinee of MATILDA THE MUSICAL on Broadway.
Paris Letters by Juliet Blackwell. I read the Secret Ingredient of Wishes and enjoyed it.
I'm still reading The Bone Tree by Greg Iles — it's really, really long but the pacing is good and the plot interesting so I'm enjoying it a lot.
I feel a bit out of step with all the other readers here. I'm working on a project of my own – re-reading all of Shirley Rousseau Murphy's Joe Grey & Dulcie boos culminating in the newest book when they have kittens. Right now I'm on book #13 which is Deck the Halls. So I've hit the Christmas entry at the right time!
