Congratulations to the winners of the last contest. Jane W. from Scottsville, VA won Clause & Effect. Cathy D. from Aiken, SC will receive Wed, Read & Dead. The books will go out in the mail tomorrow.
There’s history and a cold case in the first mystery for giveaway. It doesn’t get much colder than an ancestry detective looking back at the Civil War in S.C. Perkins’ Fatal Family Ties. One of Lucy Armstrong’s former coworkers, Camilla Braithwaite, wants her to find the truth about her ancestor, Corporal Charles Braithwaite. While his family and the city of Houston viewed him as a hero, a national publication claims he was “a coward, a deserter, and a charlatan.” She also wants Lucy to find an art appraiser for a triptych painted by Charles Braithwaite. But, before Lucy gets far, one panel of the triptych is stolen, and another one of Camilla’s relatives is dead.
Sarah Stewart Taylor divides her setting between Long Island and Ireland in A Distant Grave.. Maggie D’arcy and her teenage daughter, Lilly, are still recovering from the events of last fall when a Maggie takes on a new case. The body of an unidentified Irish national turns up in a wealthy Long Beach community and with little to go on but the scars on his back, Maggie once again teams up with Garda detective in Ireland to find out who the man was and what he was doing on Long Island. The strands of the mystery take Maggie to a quiet village in rural County Clare that’s full of secrets and introduce her to the world of humanitarian aid workers.
Which book would you like to win? You can enter to win both, but I need separate entries. Email me at Lesa.Holstine@gmail.com. Your subject line should read either “Win Fatal Family Ties” or “Win A Distant Grave.” Please include your name and mailing address. The giveaway will end Thursday, August 26 at 5 PM CT. Entries from the U.S. only, please.
Giving away Family Fatal Ties is like serendipity as I just finished watching The History Channel’s Grant and am finishing Nathan Dylan Goodwin’s 5th in the Morton Farrier Forensic Genealogy Series.
I love cold cases and both of these sound really good. After all, they’ve got the Lesa Holstine stamp of approval.
Oh, they do, Carol! I liked both of them!
Neither for me, thanks, Lesa, but I do want to thank you for this blog and all the time and work you put into it. Since I discovered it, through a comment Tracy made on her own blo, Bitter Tea and Mystery, I’ve been a regular reader and frequent comment-maker. I certainly wouldn’t enjoy Thursdays nearly as much without this blog! I also find I’m finding and reading books you review here. So, thank you, thank you very much indeed!
I agree with Rick! I appreciate all you do here, Lesa! I wasn’t able to comment yesterday – couldn’t get the page to load and then never got a chance to get back to it. I just picked up The Reading List from the library. I’m looking forward to it, but I have a stack of books from the library and need to read according to due date.
Have a great weekend!
And I agree with Rick as well. You are always a bright spot in my day, especially during the pandemic. You are also helping to keep my bookstore in business, by always adding to my list! Thank you, Lesa!
That’s funny, Jennifer! You should tell them at your bookstore that you’re keeping them in business, partially because of the blog! You’re welcome!
You’re welcome, and thank you, Gretchen! I’ll look forward to your comments on Thursday since you have that stack of books! Thank you!
Well, Rick, I have to thank Tracy, then. I’m glad you found the blog and join in on the discussions, especially on Thursdays. Thank you!
