This week, I’m giving away a couple cozy mysteries. set in the past. G.A. McKevett’s Murder Most Grave is a prequel to her series featuring Stella “Granny” Reid. It’s set in the small Southern town where Savannah Reid grew up in the 1980s. It focuses on Savannah’s grandmother Stella, and a teenage version of the girl who would become the curvy, big-bones P.I. fans adore in her Savannah series. Stella has a new grandbaby to care for at home, and teenage granddaughter with a crush on a boy guaranteed to break her heart. Stella doesn’t really have the option to run around with her best pal Sheriff Manny Goldford, until a freshly murdered body is discovered sprawled across the steps of a crypt.
Or, you can go back to the World War II-era in a historical mystery debut by Joyce St. Anthony, Front Page Murder. Irene Ingram has written for her father’s newspaper for years. But, with her father off in the war, she’s now the editor, which doesn’t sit well with some of the men in the office. But, Irene has bigger worries when crime reporter Moe Bauer, on the heels of a hot tip, turns up dead at the foot of his cellar steps. Irene tends to agree with the police chief that it was an accident, until she finds a note Moe left on her desk, saying he was working on a big story. Now, she feels responsible for his death, and committed to finding the killer.
