Congratulations to the winners of the last contest. Kathy T. from Bogota, NJ won The Kaiser’s Web. Richard R. from Portland, OR won The Blues Don’t Care. The books are going out in the mail today.
This week I’m giving away two books that are award nominees. Let’s start with a book that was on my favorites list, Jess Lourey’s Unspeakable Things. I’ve referred to it as a coming-of-age crime novel. Set in the 1980s, it’s inspired by true events in the author’s hometown. When boys disappear from a small Minnesota town, and then return, they’re changed, and so is the town. Then, one boy doesn’t return. Cassie McDowell knew several of the boys, sees their changes, and then sees her own older sister change. Secrets in a small town can be terrifying and brutal. Unspeakable Things is a finalist for the Edgar for Best Paperback Original.
How about a nominee for the International Thriller Writers Thriller Award for Best Young Adult Novel? Lily Sparks is nominated for her debut, Teen Killers Club. Framed for the murder of her best friend, a young girl joins a super-secret society of teenage assassins to avoid a lifetime behind bars – and discovers her own true self – in this debut.
Which award finalist would you like to win? You can enter to win both, but I need separate entries. Email me at Lesa.Holstine@gmail.com. Your subject line should read either “Win Unspeakable Things” or “Win Teen Killers Club.” Please include your name and mailing address. The giveaway will end Thursday, April 29 at 5 PM CT. Entries from the U.S. only, please.
