Congratulations to the winners of the last contest. Both books are going to the West Coast. Glen D. from Yuba City, won The Puzzle Box. Barbara W. from Auburn, WA won Sick to Death. The books will go out in the mail on Saturday.
Nine years. I’ve been giving away books on most Fridays for nine years, and it’s time to shut it down. Prices continue to go up to mail the books. And, I get fewer and fewer print books to give away. I used to get boxes every week. Now, I’m lucky to get a few books a week. I’ve made a lot of friends over the years as I did these giveaways. I hope some of you continue to read the blog, and share what you’re reading on Thursdays.
So, Glen and Barbara were the last winners for the giveaways. Thank you to everyone who participated over the years.
I’m going to see if I can try something else on Fridays. We’ll see what happens next week.
Thank you, again!
Sad to see the giveaways end. But, I get it. I very rarely get a print copy these days in the mail. I used to get around 40 to 50 a week back in the early 2000s up until 2012 or so.
Things are radically different now, in so many ways.
Wow! one of the last winners! Thanks for all the books, Lesa!
The first book I won here was by Bill Crider, and now, we’re discussing him again. Seems fitting.
Congratulations, Glen!
9 is a long time. Thanks for all the books you’ve offered.
If I’m asked to review a book nowadays, I find I do have specifically to request a paper copy – though I’ve only ever been refused once or twice.
But although I struggle with e-readers myself, I can absolutely see the advantages of them, both to the publishers and to the environment. I know many people – of all ages – who love them. One friend borrows all of her library books as electronic copies, because a kindle is lighter to hold, and can also accommodate her poorer eyesight.
I’m looking forward to finding out what you have in store for us Lesa! You always have great ideas.
It was so fun to win a book once, and I really appreciated the little note you included with it, Lesa. Thanks for all you do to foster a book-loving community!
I get, my Christmas list is getting shorter and shorter. Long ago, I sent three paperbacks to a friend in the U.K. Couldn’t do it now. Thank you for your nine years. The blog is much more important.
Thank you for your nine years of generosity. I read your blog each day and will continue to do so because my reading life has been enriched by learning of so many authors who fly under the radar and whose works are such fun reading. I take great pleasure I. Reading too about your adventures with family. 💕
Thank you for your nine years of giveaways. It was fun. I get it; everything is expensive. I’ve been going to the library weekly now to save money. Libraries are the best thing to have around.
Lesa, thank you for the books I have won from you over the years–always a thrill. But I understand why it is ending. These days, I get most of the books I read from NetGalley and from the library. And I’ll sometimes order them during B&N’s preorder 25% discount days. Reading ebooks on the Kindle app on my iPad is really the most convenient for me now. I have a keyboard attached that makes the iPad stand up, which is nice when I’m reading during lunch. Also, the font and brightness can be adjusted. I find that reading a mass market paperback is getting more difficult, as the font tends to be much smaller than I would like. I don’t think any of your faithfuls will leave the blog because there will be no more giveaways, as that’s not why we stay with you.We love you and our fellow faithfuls! Have a great weekend, everyone!
Thanks for your reviews, I’ve bought many books that you recommend. The giveaways waswere a nice perk, but not why I read your newsletter. Thanks for your generosity, enjoy your retirement and travels. Hopefully you will post reviews once in awhile and I will definitely be reading them.
Lesa, you have created a wonderful community of book loving friends. It was always fun to win a book and get a nice note from you, but that was never the reason I stopped by.
Thanks for all that you do!
It was a generous thing for you to do, Lesa, but I don’t mind your stopping since I’d never expect you to send a book to Switzerland anyway! Postage costs just go up and up–here in Switzerland, too!
Lesa,, thank you for 9 years of gifting books. I have been on the receiving end more than once. I am reading more and more. Get my books from the library and Libby and sadly buy them as well. I now use a book light most of the time unless I am sitting near my front window during the day. I have tried many however I discovered this one and it is my go to. It is a double light
Your people will not leave you because you stopped sending out books. Thank you again

You are a kind and generous soul. And I can’t wait to see what you have in mind. Whatever it is, you have created a welcoming community – thank you.
❤
I never came for the free books, although I was happy to receive one. I came for your upbeat styles and insight into today’s crime novels. That is more than enough!
Lesa thank you for your generosity over 9 years. While I had great fun winning several books that was never the reason I read your blog. You have created such a wonderful community of readers who I count on for new book and author recommendations. I can not count how many great books I have discovered through the blog. I’ll keep reading it as long as you can keep writing it. Keep enjoying your retirement as you rethink some of the ways you spend your time.
Thank you so much to all of you in my online family. I’m not going to end the reviews or the blog. As several of you mentioned, I just don’t get enough of the print copies to continue the giveaways.
I do have an idea for Fridays, but if anyone has suggestions, feel free to email me. We do Thursdays thanks to Jeff. I’m always open to suggestions!
Thank you so much for offering these over the years!
You’re welcome, Marla!
