This week’s contest will kick off tomorrow because I have an excerpt from the book and the giveaway ready to go then. But, congratulations to the winners of the last contest. Bonnie P. from Palo Alto, CA won Berried Secrets. Better Homes and Corpses is going to Trish R. from Decatur, GA.
I haven’t yet finished my latest book, The Witches of Cambridge by Menna Van Praag. Perhaps it’s because I don’t have much empathy for any of the characters yet, even with 100 pages read. I like the premise, though, so I’ll probably finish it.
Instead of a book review or a giveaway today, let’s talk about what you’re reading. I hope you have a good book! Do you want to tell us about it?
Joe Lansdale's collection, HAP AND LEONARD. Andy Martin, REACHER SAID NOTHING: LEE CHILD AND THE MAKING OF MAKE ME. A couple of other things, including Grisham's ROGUE LAWYER. (I downloaded the second and third of these from my local library to the Kindle.) I find I have TEN library books that were waiting for me when we got home.
I need to read faster!
Jeff,
Whew! I'm glad you have ten books waiting for you since I forgot to package up your book last night and I'm going to the post office today. Next week!
I just started Fogged Inn by Barbara Ross. I'm enjoying it so far.
FOOL ME ONCE, Harlan Coben
FLAME OUT by M. P. Cooley – met her at LCC and had read her first book, ICE SHEAR, last year. Set in upstate New York – Rust Belt area – not a place that I've been familiar with before. I love her main character, June.
I'm finishing To Helvetica and Back by Paige Shelton. It's a unique setting for a cozy–a shop where old typewriters are repaired and old books are restored, and it is well written and maintaining my interest. I can't wait to start The Only Woman in the Room by Rita Lakin. Rita has written a string of mysteries but earlier was one of the first women to break into TV writing, with 400+ episodes to her credit, along with TV movies, and she was also a showrunner when it was unheard of for a woman. After hearing Rita talk about it and unable to find the book in the library, I requested the library purchase it and they did, putting me at the top of the hold list!
I'm about 60 pages into Killer Takeout by Lucy Burdette. So far so good.
Just finished Ian Rankin's Even Dogs in the Wild: superb! On my way to library to pick up Donna Leon's newest (can't remember title) and Chris Pavone's The Travelers.
Congratulation, Lesa. Just read the news from Poisoned Pen.
Just finished AT THE EDGE OF THE ORCHARD by Tracey Chevalier. Different but good. Hope one of my book groups chooses it to discuss.
FOREIGN ECLAIRS by Julie Hyzy. I'm going to miss this series so much.
Lesa, I really appreciate you sending me the book but believe me…THERE IS NO HURRY.
I'm really enjoying the Joe Lansdale collection, by the way. Lots of laughs in this one.
I am reading And Then There Were Nuns by Kylie Logan which is kind of funny since we just cleared Then There Were None off our DVR from Lifetime. I am enjoying so far. I did not like The Witches of Cambridge nearly as much as Mena Van Praag's other books. I did love Faith Sullivan's Good Night, Mr. Wodehouse that I finished on Tuesday though.
I am reading Atef Abu Saif's The Drone Eats with Me. The author lives with his family in the Gaza Strip. They are in the largest refugee camp (over 100,000)trying to make life normal as possible for his children.
My current read is not a mystery book. I like a variety of reads. I'm reading BE FRANK WITH ME. I'm really loving it. The young man, Frank, is both exasperating and endearing.
In print I just finished tonight DOUBLE SWITCH by T. T. Monday. This is the second in his series about MLB relief pitcher Johnny Adcock who moonlights as a sort of PI. It is a good one. I found about the first book, THE SETUP MAN, by way of Kaye George who reviewed to for my blog last year. I got the book, enjoyed it, and reviewed it as well.
E-book wise I am working on THUGLIT: Issue 22.
