Congratulations to the winners of the most recent contest. Nancy H. from White River Junction, VT won Best in Snow. Cindy D. from College Place, WA won Fogged Off. The books are going out in the mail today.
This is the last giveaway of 2021. Every year, I discontinue the contests during December because I don’t like to go to the post office during December. And, with everything predicted, who knows when your books would arrive. I have to admit though, that I’ve received everything I’ve ordered, and there hasn’t been a problem.
So, I’m ending the year with two books featuring Sherlock Holmes. Lyndsay Faye’s collection, Observations By Gaslight: Stories from the World of Sherlock Holmes, isn’t even out yet, but I thought it was terrific. In this collection, one of the members of the Baker Street Irregulars has gathered stories from those who knew Sherlock Holmes and Watson, including Irene Adler, Inspector Lestrade and Mrs. Hudson. They all tell how they knew or related to Holmes and Watson. Faye truly knows Holmes’ world, and this is an excellent collection. My review will be up close to release date, but you have the chance to win a copy now.
Nicholas Meyer, author of The Seven-Per-Cent Solution, now takes Holmes and Watson to Egypt in The Return of the Pharaoh. Can two murders, separated by three thousand years, be related? In 1911, Egyptomania is all the rage. Titled Europeans are heading to Egypt in use of fame and gold, including Michael, Duke of Uxbridge. When he disappears, his wife hires Sherlock Holmes to find the missing nobleman. Dr. Watson, wintering in Cairo with his ailing wife, meets up with Holmes. Together, the pair search for the missing man, although the shadow of a pharaoh hangs over their case.
Which book would you like to win? You can enter to win both, but I need separate entries. Email me at Lesa.Holstine@gmail.com. Your subject line should read either “Win Observations By Gaslight” or “Win The Return of the Pharaoh.” Please include your name and mailing address. Entries from the U.S. only, please.
Due to the Thanksgiving weekend, this giveaway will end early. I’ll end the contest on Tuesday, Nov. 23 so I can put the books in the mail on Wednesday.
Thank you, Lesa!
You’re welcome, Cindy!
I have OBSERVATIONS BY GASLIGHT on hold at the library, for whenever. They receive and process it.
I hope you like it, Rick. One or two of the stories were weaker than the others, but that’s typical in a collection. I really liked the ones I mentioned, along with the introduction and the story by the Baker Street Irregular (can’t think of his name offhand).
Sorry I got here so late yesterday, it was a difficult day. If you peek at my blog, you’ll see my short story reading for the previous week. Again, I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
Hope you’re doing okay, Rick. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving as well. Thank you!
I have Observations By Gaslight on hold also. I didn’t realize it wasn’t out yet. Might explain why I’m first in line! I just checked out In League With Sherlock Holmes edited by Laurie King & Leslie Klinger from 2020. I think it was a recent mention in your Thursday group.
It’s due out soon, MM, but I thought I’d give away a copy as the last contest of the year.
Love Holmes..original and pastiches!
I do, too, Joan.
