Well, I was still reading on deadline until last night, but I did find time to read one of Heather Graham’s short stories about the Krewe of Hunters. I stumbled across several holiday stories she wrote, and I thought “Christmas, the Krewe, and Kenneth” would be perfect.

Jackson Crowe, Field Director and Special Agent in Charge for the Krewe unit, along with his wife, Angela Hawkins Crowe, have a new home, along with their adopted son, Corby, their infant daughter, and two dogs. Well, the Irish wolfhound, Sean, is actually a ghost. 2020 has been a rough year for them. Like everyone, they struggled with COVID, but the new year brings hope of a vaccine. They’re ready for some downtime at Christmas.

But, the neighbor, Sandy Wilson, flags Angela down. She’s heard rustling by the trashcans, and she’s worried because she just heard a report of two bodies found in the Potomac. The news story broke while Angela and Jackson were enjoying time with the children, so they hadn’t heard. Yes, two bodies were found. And, the couple’s seventeen-year-old autistic son is a suspect.

This is a Krewe of Hunters story, though, and a Christmas one. It wouldn’t be a Krewe story without a ghost, and not just a dog. Let’s just say the twenty-eight page story has a happy ending, with hope for more than just a vaccine.

“Christmas, the Krewe, and Kenneth” surprised me as to how well-developed it was for a story that’s only twenty-eight pages long. I have a New Year’s Krewe story on my Kindle, and I’m sure I’ll find time for a few more enjoyable teasers for the books.

Because I’m a Prime member, the story was free to download on my Kindle.
