I also have a copy of G.M. Mallet’s Max Tudor mystery, A Demon Summer. Tudor is a retired spy turned vicar. No one finds it surprising that someone tried to poison Lord Lislelivet. What is surprising is that the poison was discovered in a fruitcake made and sold by the Handmaids of St. Lucy of Monkbury Abbey. When the powerful Lord complains to the local bishop, he asks Father Max Tudor to investigate.
