I debated what I wanted to say today. I almost posted a picture of a sleigh. I’m heading to my Mom’s today for Christmas, and I’ll stay almost until New Year’s. Instead, looking at the weather, I decided to go with hibernation. I’m leaving for Mom’s earlier than I usually do in the morning so I can get on the road before the snow comes in. We’re supposed to have 3-5 inches, and then afterward temperatures about 20 degrees below normal. You already know I hate winter.
At least I put new tires on my car yesterday. Then, this weather front ruined my plans for the next few days. I’m certainly cancelling my plans to go to Toronto on Monday. We don’t know if we’ll have the family Christmas party tomorrow.
But, I’ll be tucked in at Mom’s. I have a great heavy sweater that was my Dad’s. I live in it when I’m there. And, I understand the temperatures will be better by Christmas.
I’m sure I won’t have a book review tomorrow since I’ll be on the road in the morning, and unpacking the car once I get there. (My car looks like I’m moving into Mom’s.)

UPDATE – I left early this morning, about 7 AM & arrived at Mom’s by 9:30. She cancelled going to a birthday party for a great-grandchild this afternoon, and I cancelled my trip to Toronto. But, we’re both tucked in snug and safe. Thank you for all of your notes!

I will be glad when you are safely tucked away at your Mom’s. We are have weird wonky temperatures! It is 62 now, weather news is that it will plummet into the 40s. *82 degrees is expected on 12/22/2025. That scares me, 82 in December, what will August next year be like? I have an appointment on next Tuesday, a brain MRI on Wednesday, and then I have scheduled a two-week vacation from appointments. I want to stay home and enjoy not going anywhere!

Lesa, have a wonderful trip and enjoy your hibernation. Yesterday I was the Toastmaster of the Day at my meeting, and my theme was December Delights–not just the December holidays (which some of us don’t celebrate) but things such as how to achieve coziness when it’s cold outside or raining or snowing (not here), and it included warm sweaters and throw blankets. It sounds like your sweater at your mom’s house is just right. I layer HeatTech tops under everything I wear in the winter, and they have been life savers. Sometimes I wear a HeatTech, then a sweater, then a heavy sweatshirt jacket and still have to have a “warm beverage” (as Sheldon would have said) at lunchtime as I try not to turn up the heat inside. Enjoy!
Margie, I don’t think you’d survive at my house ha ha ha. In the winter we keep the temperature around 17C (which is maybe 63F or so) and wear a single light sweater if we feel a bit chilly. Lots of hot tea – that’s the answer.
Oh, I definitely wouldn’t survive, Lindy. I keep my house at 75 during the day and 68 at night. My blood has never thickened again after all those years in Florida and Arizona. I’m always cold.
Margie – Hot apple cider, hot tea or hot cocoa along with that sweater and an afghan. Cats used to help!
I feel your pain. It’s been awful here, and now they’re saying we could get 1-3 inches overnight into tomorrow morning. Jackie had me cancel our Earth, Wind & Fire tickets for Tuesday, as she just can’t bear the idea of going into the city with all that entails in this lousy weather. (I was able to sell them for face value.) Thankfully, there is a little light at the end of the tunnel (or this week), as it is supposed to start warming up (50s! maybe!) after Wednesday.
We leave for Florida three weeks from tuday.
