I enjoyed Denise Williams’ contemporary romance, The Re-Do List, enough that I picked up Love and Other Flight Delays at the library. It’s a collection of three novellas all centered around the same airport. It’s light and fluffy, and the stories are so short there’s not enough time for the romantic misunderstandings to become problematic. That’s a plus.
“The Love Connection” is a meet cute story. Ollie owns a pet grooming shop in the airport, and she admires a man in a suit that she sees get off a plane every Tuesday. One day, a wet dog gets loose, and Bennett catches him. This was my favorite story. He’s a risk assessor who writes romance novels. He’s had writer’s block, but the cute shop owner inspires his latest book.
Two chemistry professors who have challenged each other professionally for years, but never met, meet in the airport on New Year’s Eve in “The Missed Connection”. However, they have no idea who the other person is, and share a hot kiss on the airport train. It’s an enemies to lovers romance when he accepts a job at the university where she works.
I wasn’t crazy about “The Sweetest Connection”. Perhaps it was because the two main characters seemed to be the most immature. Although they’d been best friends since college, seven years later, they still can’t admit their attraction for each other.
Light and fluffy with one sex scene. They were enjoyable stories. But, when there are multiple stories, it’s easy to pick out the writer’s overuse of a phrase. Every one of the male main characters “scrubbed” his hand down or over his face. It’s noticeable in multiple stories. But, overall, it was an entertaining collection.
