I do know how lucky I am that my mother is still in great shape, physically and mentally. And, I don’t want to offend anyone whose mother is gone. But, I just wanted to say I’m up at Mom’s, so there won’t be a book blog for a couple days.
My youngest sister, Christie, came up today, too. We finished a jigsaw puzzle together, went to lunch, played four games of pinocle, and planned a short family trip for the end of June. It was a really nice day.
I’m staying until Sunday morning, so I’ll be here for a few days. If you’re lucky enough to have your mother yet, I hope you have a relationship worth celebrating. If you’re a mother, Happy Mother’s Day weekend. And, if you have great memories, or are a mother to a pet, I’m sending hugs and love as well. Enjoy your life, and your memories.
Thanks, Lesa. My husband and son are cooking some favorite recipes for me this weekend and I am picking some movies we will watch together.
You and your mother and Chrissie have a good weekend.
Thank you, Tracy. Enjoy your weekend!
Have a wonderful Mother’s Day weekend Lesa! And thanks for your wise words; they were perfect for today, as my mom passed away five years ago today. Lots of memories, that’s for sure.
I’m sorry, Lindy. I’m not looking forward to that day in my life. I’m sure it’s hard for you and so many others.
Have a great time.
Always, Kevin! Thank you!
Lesa, you could never offend any of us! I’m so glad you have your mother and sister to spend this weekend with. Enjoy! We have my husband’s mother (89 and going strong) to celebrate with belatedly when we get back from Romania.
Thank you, Kim. I’m so glad your mother-in-law is going strong, too. My Mom is almost 89, and she can outwalk me.
Enjoy your visit.
Thank you, Sandy! I am.
Happy Mother’s Day to all you mothers who celebrate it. My mother definitely liked to get cards and phone calls on the day, so even though I am in the “artificial day created by Hallmark” camp, I certainly obliged her. She was a character. I definitely credit her with my love of reading. She was on a first name basis with her local librarians, and they were known to call her when books by certain favorite authors came in. She’s been gone over a dozen years now.
Like you, my mother liked to be celebrated on Mother’s Day, but I’m definitely with you on the ‘artificial day created by Hallmark’ way of thinking Jeff. For years I’ve told my children that if they aren’t prepared to be nice to me all year, not to bother on just the one day someone decided should be Mother’s Day. They’re happy, I’m happy. And they show their love and care for me in many ways throughout the year.
I agree with you, Jeff, and with Lindy. All of us celebrate my mother all year, so it’s just an artificial holiday as you said. But, we love her, and she enjoys the celebrations.
Going out to celebrate my birthday at Burger King, which we can still afford and then to trade books. I can walk much better now. My birthday often landed on Mother’s Day, I felt that we were together on those days. She used to make my favorite birthday dinner, stuffed green peppers, mashed potatoes, peas and lemon meringue pie. Her birthday was May 2nd and I was supposed to be born then but I was a stubborn Taurus and was born on Mother’s Day. Lesa, please give your mother a big hug from me!
Happy Birthday Carol 💐
Happy Birthday Carol! Sounds like your day will be very special.
Carol, Enjoy your birthday celebration. It sounds as if your mother always made it special for you. I hope it’s special this year, too. Sending hugs!
Enjoy your time with family, Lesa and everyone else!
Thank you, Kaye! As always! I know how precious this time is.
