When you discover a new author and enjoyed their book, do you ever wonder how you got there? I may have put a hold on Denise Williams’ The Re-Do List because of BookPage. I’m not really sure. However, I already picked up a collection of Williams’ novellas. I’m all in for her sexy contemporary romance about two people finding themselves and each other.

Willow Lewis became a meme when her long-time boyfriend dumped her and her reaction went viral when someone caught it on camera. Fortunately, she could move from Denver to Iowa to house and dog sit for her brother, Cruz, while he is deployed. She was with Spencer since middle-school. She changed her college plans for him, spent time with his family. “You don’t know who you are when you’re not part of that thing you thought defined you.” How do you discover what your own dreams are when you’ve been planning to be part of a couple for years?

Although Deacon Rakes received a medical discharge from the Air Force, he’s working hard to recuperate and reenlist. He’s been part of a brotherhood as a Pararescue Jumper. He identifies as a man who saves others. While he’s working out, he agrees to help his best friend, Cruz, by watching over his younger sister, Willow. Sure, he’ll help Willow with her re-do list. She wants to re-do all the firsts she had with Spencer, so she can learn who she is without him. Easy to do? Sure, Deacon, who is a chick magnet can help out Cruz, and keep his hands off Cruz’ little sister.

Willow and Deacon discover they enjoy each other’s banter, but they’re also willing to discuss big questions. What was your favorite stuffed animal as a child, the one you couldn’t live without? While they’re both planning to move on from Iowa, what do they want to do with their lives? No strings attached, right, as they work on Willow’s list? Deacon promised Cruz he’d look out for Willow. Neither Deacon and Willow planned on sex and falling in love.

Of course, it’s obvious where this book is going, but it’s so much fun to get there with two bright, witty characters. They both need to change their goals, and they’re willing to challenge each other to get there. I liked that the story was told from both viewpoints, Willow’s and Deacon’s. I’m always looking for the tropes in romances. This one has best friend’s sister and second chances. The Re-Do List is spicy and hot with characters who show emotional growth. I’ll pick up other romances by Denise Williams.
