Kate Belli takes us back to New York City and Newport in the sweltering heat of July 1889. While investigative journalist Genevieve Stewart and wealthy Daniel McCaffrey have teamed up before for dangerous adventures, in Treachery on Tenth Street, they’re working together to find a monster who is killing young women who are artists’ models.

One of Genevieve’s best friends, Callie Maple, is the first one to ask them to investigate. Like Genevieve and Daniel, Callie was once one of New York’s elite Astor 400. But, when Callie’s grandmother died, leaving her with no money, she was forced to disappear. Months later, she’s reappeared. She’s now an artist’s model and the mistress of Walter Wilson, an architect and sculptor. But, she’s worried after the body of another model, and a friend, Beatrice Holler, is found with her throat cut. She wants Genevieve and Daniel to investigate because the police are keeping the multiple deaths a secret. Daniel guesses they’re trying to avoid a panic because the tabloids are already saying Jack the Ripper left England, and is now in New York. Because young women have been found with their throats cut, there might be panic.

It’s a frustrating case as the pair search the Tenth Street Studio Building looking for clues. The killer seems to be one step ahead of them. Even when they take a one-day expedition with friends as an escape from the investigation, it leads to tragedy.
