Someone recommended Tom Piazza's DEVIL SENT THE RAIN: MUSIC AND WRITING IN DESPERATE AMERICA, so I downloaded a copy from the library website. The first half has various magazine profiles of Bob Dylan, Jimmie Rodgers, and other musical greats. The second half has pieces the New Orleans resident has written since Katrina and his WHY NEW ORLEANS MATTERS. Good stuff.

I'm reading A Murder in Time by Julie McElwain, along with Hamilton: The Revolution, the beautiful book detailing the development, behind the scenes info, and complete lyrics of Lin-Manuel Miranda's phenomenally successful Broadeay musical.
I'm one hundred pages into Montalbano's First Case and Other Stories and am not disappointed. Camilleri's introduction is both explanatory about the selections and direct, just like his main character, Montalbano.

Sharon! I heard Fredrick Backman speak at BEA. Very interesting. He talked about the excellent libraries and schools in Sweden. Ahhhh – Harry Connick, Jr. Wonderful show! Actually better than the one we went to in St. Louis last year. The audience & the band were really into this one. Harry & the band were really jamming. It was so much fun. Just fabulous!

I'm reading Jerry Eckert's memoir, "Weeping Kings & Wild Boars," published by Hot Chocolate Press. Eckert's amazing experiences with foreign service and trying to solve poverty issues around the world is a must read for all of us.
I'm reading "The Other Side of Silence" by Phillip Kerr. This is the latest in the Bernie Gunther series. It takes place in 1956 on the French Riviera. I read the first two parts of the Berlin Trilogy and was intrigued by Kerr's style.
That does sound like the perfect beach read! Right now I'm reading Fun Home by Allison Bechdel.
