Congratulations to the winners of the last contest. Daniel M. from Weymouth, MA won You Can Never Tell. Kevin T. from Dallas, TX will received Back from the Brink. The books are going out in the mail today.

This week, I’m giving away two classic mysteries. Castle Skull is “A Rhineland Mystery” by John Dickson Carr. It’s one of the British Library Crime Classics with an introduction by Martin Edwards. Actor Myron Alison was murdered. His blazing body was seen running over the battlements of Castle Skull. Belgian financier D’Aunay begs Inspector Henri Bencolin and his accomplice Jeff Marle to investigate the actor’s gruesome and theatrical death. Bencolin and Marle find a fortress and a world steeped in macabre legends of murder and magic.

Or, you could win the mystery that inspired Sue Grafton, her father’s The Rat Began to Gnaw the Rope. C.W. Grafton’s was one of the first books in the Library of Congress Crime Classics series. Carla D. Hayden, Librarian of Congress, wrote the Foreward, and the Introduction and notes are by Leslie S. Klinger. Gil Henry, the youngest member of a small law firm agrees to help a woman investigate the value of the stocks she inherited from her father. It seems like a simple task, until someone makes an attempt on his life. Soon, poor Gil is embroiled in scandal, subterfuge, and murder. He’s beaten, stabbed, and shot as his colleagues and enemies try to stop him from seeing the case through to the end. It’s a mystery that combines humor and a hard-boiled style.

Which classic mystery would you like to win? You can enter to win both, but I need separate entries. Email me at Lesa.Holstine@gmail.com.
