Congratulations to the winners of the last contest. Liz V. from Annapolis, MD won The Orphan’s Guilt. Cruel as the Grave is going to Diane M. from State College, PA. The books are going out in the mail today (I think the post office is open.).

Maybe I should have saved the dog mysteries for the Dog Days of August, but, instead we’re going to the dogs this week. I have hardcovers of both of these books. The first is Paula Munier’s The Hiding Place. Military veteran Mercy Carr and her dog Elvis return in an emotional book. It’s a rough time for Mercy. A dying deputy leaves Mercy with files that belonged to her grandfather, including a cold case that haunted, and may have killed him. It comes at the same time as Mercy’s grandmother is threatened by an escaped prisoner with revenge on his mind. Then, there’s a threat to Elvis. A fellow veteran shows up, claiming Elvis belongs to him. Mercy had a falling out with Game Warner Troy Warner, but she needs help now.

Maybe you’d like to win A Trail of Lies by Kylie Logan. Jazz Ramsey gets an alarming call in the middle of the night from her boyfriend’s mother. Kim says there’s a dead man in her backyard. Kim has a long history of drinking and a vivid imagination, so when Jazz’s human remains detection dog, Wally, finds no evidence of a body, Jazz thinks she can breathe easy. But, when the body of a middle-aged man is discovered in a nearby park, there’s a picture of Kim and her son in his pocket. Kim claims she doesn’t know him, but the police learn he’s a recently paroled convict who served thirty years for murder. No one wants Jazz poking around, but she isn’t about to give up now.
