Congratulations to the winners of the last contest. Joan R. from Staten Island, NY won A Death in Denmark. Lynn L. from Rio Linda, CA will receive Intrigue in Istanbul. The books are going out in the mail today.

This week, I’m giving two Golden Age mysteries. Let’s start with the author you all recognize, Agatha Christie. Midsummer Mysteries is a collection of stories featuring all of Christie’s sleuths; Miss Marple, Hercule Poirot, Tommy & Tuppence, my favorite Harley Quin. There’s a dozen stories in this enjoyable collection.

E.C.R. Lorac’s Murder by Matchlight puts an interesting twist on a mystery set in London, 1945. The murder occurs during the blackout, so no one actually sees the killer in the light. Martin Edwards wrote the introduction to this entry in the British Library Crime Classics collection. London, 1945. The capital is shrouded in the darkness of the blackout, and mystery abounds in the parks after dusk. During a stroll through Regent’s Park, Bruce Mallaig witnesses two men acting suspiciously around a footbridge. In a matter of moments, one of them has been murdered; Mallaig’s view of the assailant but a brief glimpse of a ghastly face in the glow of a struck match. The murderer’s noiseless approach and escape seems to defy all logic, and even the victim’s identity is quickly thrown into uncertainty. Lorac’s shrewd yet personable C.I.D. man MacDonald must set to work once again to unravel this near-impossible mystery.

Which mystery would you like to win? You can enter to win both, but I need separate entries. Email me at Lesa.Holstine@gmail.com.
