Manors and halls, perfect places for murders and amateur sleuths. This week, I’m giving away two books. First, there’s Tracy Gardner’s Peril at Pennington Manor., an Avery Ayers Antique Mystery. Thanks to Aunt Midge’s friendship with Nicholas Pennington, the Duke of Valle Charme, Avery and her associates at Antiques and Artifacts Appraised head off to their most glamorous assignment yet – cataloguing and appraising the contents of a castle-like mansion on the Hudson River. But regal splendor becomes a backdrop to mayhem when the precious Viktor Petrova timepiece disappears – and the housekeeper plummets from a parapet to her death.

Or you could head off to Agatha Christie’s Mallowan Hall in Murder at Mallowan Hall by Colleen Cambridge. But, Christie is not the sleuth. It’s her housekeeper Phyllida Bright. Phyllida is a fan of detective fiction. But though accustomed to murder and its methods as frequent topics of conversation, Phyllida is unprepared for the sight of a very real, very dead body on the library floor. It soon becomes clear the victim arrived at Mallowan Hall under false pretenses during a weekend party. Now, Phyllida has a houseful of demanding guests on her hands, an anxious staff, and hordes of reporters camping outside. When another body is discovered, Phyllida decides to follow in Hercule Poirot’s footsteps to determine which of the guests is the killer.
