Last night, I spent quite a bit of time talking with my sister about a vacation trip. So, I didn’t get far in my book. My personal recommender suggested Celeste Fletcher McHale’s debut novel, The Secret to Hummingbird Cake. It’s the story of three women who have been friends since they were five. Sounds like typical women’s fiction? My friend assures me it takes an unexpected turn. Set in a small town in Louisiana, it might just be a delightful southern novel.

The Secret of the Hummingbird Cake is waiting for me to pick up at the library tomorrow. I just finished the first two of the Kate Parker Antiquarian bookshop series-The Vanishing Thief and the Counterfeit Lady. My grandson gave me the third in the series for my birthday book (our family tradition of a paperback rather than a card) so I am playing catch up. I enjoyed them. On my night table now is Dear Mr. Woodhouse by Faith Sullivan.

Finishing up Of Giants and other Men by Caspar Peek. It is about Nicaragua during the depression and 50 years after. It is the story of two cousins who were friends and their experiences, one is a reclusive pathologist and the other is in the military. Also the horrors that the people went through under terrifying dictatorship.
In e-book I am reading SELENA by Greg Barth. Graphic in every way possible this crime fiction read is pretty tough. Good, but not right for lots of folks.
In print I just started DOUBLE SWITCH by T.T. Monday. A relief pitcher who also happens to be a PI. This is a sequel to THE SET UP MAN first reviewed on my blog by Kaye George for one of her "Monday With Kaye" segments. I was so intrigued by her review I hunted the book down and read it for review on the blog.
I have about four reviews to write as well on various books.
